National Archaeological Museum

© MNAT

This museum, founded in the 19th century, is the result of the merger of two earlier museums, the Monument Committee Museum and the Tarragona Archaeological Society Museum. Located in the central Plaça del Rei, it houses an invaluable collection of Roman ruins, including several fascinating architectural fragments, sculptures, inscriptions, mosaics, pottery and more found in Tarragona itself and the surrounding area. In the basement, visitors can also view a section of the original ancient Roman wall.
